Behind the camera

My name is Andrea Lombardi, and I’ve been working in cinema for 10 years now. On set I’m the DIT (Digital Imaging Technician): I handle the management and technical control of the digital image during shooting, helping the DOP with the film’s color continuity, filters, exposure, and everything that concerns the final look of the image.

I’ve had the chance to work with great cinematographers and directors who, in some way and without meaning to, taught me something I still carry with me. That’s why my photography is never static: it changes every day, and with every project.

Alongside my role as DIT, I steal moments on set: crew, actors, locations, directors. These photos are often used as behind-the-scenes material or to promote the project itself.

Outside of cinema, I try to bring my own vision to photography. I’ve been influenced by Sebastião Salgado, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Wes Anderson, Greg Williams, Elliott Erwitt, Vivian Maier, Alan Schaller... I try to bring authenticity and real moments. The photos I take have to move me first, before I can show them to the public.

For a few years now I’ve relied on Leica to shoot. My companion in adventure is a Leica M10, paired with a Summicron 35mm f/2, a Summicron 50mm f/2, and a Voigtländer 75mm f/2.8.

Andy Warhol used to say: “A day without a camera is a day wasted.”
